Starry Night This Week
Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer",
the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate
the show for the week of Monday May 12, 2008. You can view the complete show script, or watch a RealPlayer video of the show.
Mars and the Beehive and the Manger
On May 22 and 23rd, Mars can be found in the constellation of Cancer.
Through binoculars, the M44 star cluster (also known as the Beehive or Manger) will become apparent. Mars will far outshine any of the stars in the cluster itself, as well as nearby Asellus Australis, Cancer's 4th-magnitude central star.
